A QR code is not encryption
The content sits in the pattern in plain form and any scanner can read it — no password, no network. So never put a password, key or ID number in one: a photo of it leaks everything. It is not a short link either: the code generated here contains exactly what you typed, with no redirect and no third party.
Choosing an error correction level
A higher level means more modules for the same content and a denser code; in exchange it survives partial damage. Rule of thumb: M is enough, and it is the default almost everywhere. Use Q or H when the code will sit on a dark background, on creased paper, or when you want a logo in the middle. Higher is not "better" — only more tolerant of dirt.
The white border is required
A QR code needs a quiet zone of at least 4 modules around it (both the PNG and SVG here include one). It is not decoration: scanners use that blank space to find where the pattern starts. Crop it away and the code may still scan on screen, but fail once printed or placed on a patterned background — by which point you have printed hundreds.

No. The encoder runs on this page with no network requests. Disconnect and try — it still works. That also means there is no "where are my codes stored": reload and they are gone, so download anything you want to keep.
Printing, scaling, design work → SVG; it is vector and stays sharp at any size. WeChat, documents, anything that will not take SVG → PNG. The SVG here has no font dependencies and can be used directly.
The limit depends on version (1–40) and error correction; byte mode tops out around 2900 bytes (version 40 at level L). Remember that a Chinese character is 3 bytes in UTF-8. This page says so when you exceed the limit instead of producing a broken code.
Yes, but choose Q or H, and keep the logo under roughly a quarter of the area — error correction recovers obscured modules, and too much obscuring cannot be recovered. This page does not composite the logo; that is a design tool’s job.
